Township in South Africa, usually built on the periphery of towns and cities, refers to the underdeveloped urban living area for black Africans and coloureds. In recent years, township tours take tourists to experience the different local culture. With the development of township, it has evolved into "Voluntours" recently. It is an in-depth extension of township tour to explore the grass-root culture of local South African Township. In the beginning, it is mainly a half day or full day tour walking or driving pass the cluster of shacks, having a meal at a local restaurant, visiting the old home of an important African political leader or a local family etc. With a new government drive to renew and re-vitalize the view of townships ahead of the 2010 World Cup, more concrete guest houses were built, this encourages overnight in the township or to have a real rural home stay.
