9th Cape Town International Jazz Festival 2008

Since 2000, the Cape Town International Jazz Festival is being held in March annually. This year marks the 9th year of Cape Town International Jazz Festival which takes place on 28th and 29th of March 2008. With the establishment and reputation from the past 8 years, it is recognized as a top international musical event. According to the Melodytrip’s ranking of jazz festivals, the Cape Town International Jazz Festival is now No.4 in the world. Over 30,000 people attended the 2007 festival, which has proved its name as the Africa’s Grandest Gathering. This gathering is for all music lovers and professionals in the industry, which is held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. Apart from the performance from the 40 jazz and jazz-related musical groups, there are related exhibitions, courses and workshops etc. As usual, artists are equally represented by African bands and their overseas counterparts such as from America and Europe. This year, there is a pianist from Japan representing the East. Besides, there are several guitarists in the festival this year, such as the award-winning US guitarist Lee Ritenour. One of the special features of this festival is the Pre-Festival Concert. It is a free entertainment for the community which is to be held on 26th March 2008 at the Green Market Square. Close to 8000 people attended the 2007 free concert, which is shown to be a must event for music lovers looking for great remarkable atmosphere.
